The outspoken Edubiase President was first attacked by Greater Accra Football Association
New Edubiase United President Abdul Salam Yakubu was viciously attacked by thugs recruited by some officials and affiliates of the Ghana Football Association at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Thugs numbering around 10 attempted to manhandle the New Edubiase United bankroller but he was lucky to escape as Hearts of Oak supporters at the nation’s Wembley organised themselves to shepherd him to his car.
Abdul Salam, the owner of New Edubiase United, arrived at the Accra Sports Stadium in the company of former GFA President George Afriyie and journalist cum football administrator Emmanuel Akyereko Frimpong to watch the Ghana Premier League game involving Hearts of Oak and Bechem United.
While the entourage was proceeding to the VIP section of the stadium Greater Accra RFA chairman Samuel Aboabire alias KATAR confronted Salam and started hauling unprintable words on him. In his words, he accused Salam of ‘saying stupid words about the GFA on the radio’.
Meanwhile, Abdul Salam failed to react to any of the insults and unprintable words insisting the two should shake hands and forget about their differences but the RFA chairman remained unrepented of his attitude and continued to verbally attack him.
Top officials of Hearts of Oak and other dignitaries managed to calm tempers and ushered Abdul Salam to his seat at the VIP lounge.
During the exchanges, Dreams FC officials Jiji Mohammed, as well as Ameenu Shadow, were on the scene together with Ghana FA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo.
Just about 3 minutes to the end of the game which Hearts of Oak won 6-1 Salam left together with George Afriyie and Akyereko.
Just when the party descended to the car park thugs followed suit to attack him threatening to beat him up because he criticised the Ghana FA for their selection of players to the Ghana national team.
Hearts of Oak macho men prevented the thugs from carrying out their rented job and dastardly act as he was guarded to his Range Rover car which was driven off by George Afriyie to avoid further confrontation and violence from irate thugs who were swearing to teach him a lesson for expressing his opinion.
Background…
A fortnight ago Abdul Salam granted an interview to Accra-based Asempa FM to express his view on how players are called up to the Ghana national team and lamented the treatment melt out to New Edubiase United player as well as players who do not belong to the clique owned by the Ghana FA President and his associates.
The allegation provoked comments from other clubs who have suffered similar fate including Okyeman Planners FC whose player was maliciously blocked from joining the team.
