Experienced Sports Journalist Charles Osei Asibey has waded into the discussion surrounding FIFA covid-19 relief fund which had been shared by GFA with a surprise inclusion of sports journalist.
The Arm-wrestling president believes those against the proposal have limited minds
“Only Little Minded Sports Journalist will oppose the GFA’s Capacity Building Proposal for its major stakeholders, Sports Media.
“The FA in its wisdom’s want to build the capacity of sports media, whom many do not have formal training or regular refresher so to eventually enhance the football brand making it commercially lucrative, then people in same industry condemn?
“In our country where many private media owners don’t either employ professionals or pay meager salaries, someone wants to help your development and you yell?
“We have such a huge industry but disunity, selfishness and backbiting will only enhance individual self-centered image which is short lived than building an industry for an unborn generation.
“Politicians buys V8’s and provides scholarships for supposed political journalist, the entertainment journalists just like Agric and Environmental writers are benefiting from institutional subversions and you sit here ranting.
“Interesting how Political Journalist are always considered for major international games and football tournaments instead of the Sports Media. (Just because of the attitude of the Sports Media)
“How many of us as Sports Journalists have benefited from state scholarships? Ask your colleagues and they will tell you.
“Today, young journalists are proud to have a Press Center donated by former President Kuffuor which could have been rejected.
“I suggest those condemning should rather enlighten the football people on how the media influences their business.
“Note that an offer for professional development and capacity building is not an enticement for booth liking or prevents you from being independent and objective.
“Assuming without admitting that the FA has such allocation for the media, I will even ask for more otherwise, the Media can reject the support.”
GFA have allocated $7000 for media capacity building for sports journalists.
