Accra Hearts of Oak, the 2023 President Cup champions, struggled as Bibiani Gold Stars led the Phobians at the half in Bibiani.
Evans Owusu scored for Gold Stars just four minutes into the game, and the Phobians were left chasing shadows at Duns Park amid boisterous home crowd chanting.
The Phobians stepped up their game with excellent plays from Linda Mtange, Amankwah Baafi, and Albert Diuedone, but Bibiani Gold Stars matched their efforts and ended the first half with a 1-0 advantage over the Phobians.
Back from recess, Bibiani Gold Stars came out with a strategy to halt the Phobians with another goal, but Hearts of Oak were saved by a fantastic save from Eric Ofori Antwi after Albert Diuedone missed a golden opportunity to equalize the game for the Phobians.
Coach David Ocloo made a few changes to his Hearts of Oak players to reinforce them, but their entry into the game had very little effect on the outcome of the match, leaving space for the hosts to keep up their excellent play.
Bibiani Hearts of Oak were unable to capitalize on their attempts to get the equalizer while Gold Stars had several chances to double their first-half goal. The Phobians pulled a last minute magic equaliser from Isaac Mensah to end the game 1-1
