Hearts of Oak overcame JS Saoura of Algeria in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
In the early minutes of the game, the Phobians nearly conceded a goal to their opponents when Kofi Kordzi failed to put the hosts ahead after kicking a rebound over the post in bad anticipation.
Afriyie Barnieh broke through Saoura’s defense in the 16th minute, setting up Salifu Ibrahim, who scored a wonderful goal down the bottom right side to break the game’s tie before halftime.

Returning from recess, Hearts of Oak applied pressure to JS Saoura in an attempt to double their lead, but were unable to do so as Kofi Kordzi’s freekick was saved by Saoura’s safest pair of hands.
JS Saoura came back fiercely to hit Hearts of Oak, but the Phobians let their few chances go away.
In the 72nd minute, substitute Agyenim Boateng extended the Phobians’ lead after a fantastic build-up from the defense. After receiving his second yellow card for kicking Barnie out, Sauora goalie Saidi was dismissed.
Hearts finished the game with 2-0 win over Saoura who nearly got a consolation goal before full-time.
