Fredrick Asante’s first goal of the season helped the team clinch the second win of the season in a pulsating encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday in match day six of the Ghana Premier League.
The lanky forward controlled and coolly slotted home in the 78th minute as the lads made it back to back home wins.
The game started in explosive manner and the boys came close twice in the opening minutes, Christopher Acheampong had his effort hit the post. Eleven Wonders had the ball in the net, but the referee rightly whistled for offside. Lions created several chances but could not break the deadlock as the game went into the break without a goal.
Lions returned from the half determined, with Fredrick Asante getting the chance to break the deadlock, which he missed despite beating the goalkeeper. Asante was provided with another glorious opportunity, after striker Rauf Salifu took on two defender and laid the ball for him to slot home but he somehow missed.
Moments later, Asante redeemed himself after controlling a pass and firing home for the winner. Things got ugly after Eleven Wonders’ winger Amin Adams attacked the linesman leading to an eight minute hold up, and he was eventually red carded for his action.
Fredrick Asante came close again with a thunderous strike which was punched the Eleven Wonders’ goalie, with Rauf Salifu following up with a shot which was cleared off the line. The referee added ten minutes but we resolutely held on to make it a successive home win.
