Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Tamale City 3-2 at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday afternoon in match week 11 of the 2022-2023 betPawa Premier League
At halftime in Cape Coast, uninspiring Tamale City led spectacular Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 after coming back from a goal down.
Accra Hearts of Oak, the home team, had plenty of chances to score, but Obeng Jr. and Baafi were ineffective up front and did not take advantage of the possibilities that presented themselves.
After a Tamale City defender stamped on Gideon Asante in the 31st minute, the Phobians battled valiantly to break the scoreless tie. Salifu Ibrahim did a beautiful job for the Phobians.
Accra Hearts of Oak failed to protect their lone goal and were stunned just four minutes after Isaac Mensah’s penalty strike from Tamale City tied the game. Sampson Edufu of Tamale City took advantage of another breach in the Phobians’ defense to extend their lead at the end of the first half.
After the halftime break, fervent Accra Hearts of Oak attacked Tamale City, and Benjamin Yorke’s tap-in goal gave them tied the game in the 46th minutes.
While Obeng Jnr. and Benjamin Yorke failed to deliver for the Phobians, Caleb Amankwa, Robert Addo Sowah, and Samuel Inkoom were able to hold their defensive lines tight to prevent Tamale City from creating more scoring opportunities.
Tamale City also had excellent opportunities to increase their advantage, but their attackers lacked the precision necessary to get the ball past Richmond Ayi.
As Caleb Amankwah restored Hearts of Oak’s lead and scored the game-winning goal, the Phobians could not afford to lose two games in a row. The defender’s goal helped the Phobians defeat Tamale City.
