The Ghana coach has blamed his team catastrophic performance which saw his side well beaten by their Mali counterparts on lack of teamwork and enough time to prepare for the match.
The west African giant who has won the African cup of nations four times were taken to the cleaners by the Eagles with 3-0 win at Emir Hotel Sports Complex in Turkey yesterday.
“I won’t blame the players for the defeat but the key thing which resulted in our loss to Mali was that the team was not organized,” Akonnor told Adom TV
“The players didn’t know themselves because most of them were debutants and even the first time they’re playing together.”
“We trained for only two days and there was a lack of understanding as well. These are the few things which affected us during the game”
“Mali didn’t play anything extraordinary but they were an organized side which handed them the victory”
Ghana will hope to redeem themselves when the team face an Asian side Qatar in another international friendly at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex on October 12.
Ghana is preparing for next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double-header against Sudan.
