The Black Galaxies of Ghana eclipsed Sudan, putting three past them in their second group game at the on-going Championship of African Nations in Algeria.
Konadu Yiadom, Afriyie Barnieh’s spot kick and a part gasp from Suraj Seidu was enough for the Galaxies to complete a come back, defeating Sudan 3-1 on Thursday night at Stade Mohamed Hamlahaoui in Constitine
After being pegged down by a goal from their opponent, Ghana’s Black Galaxies managed to tie a very tight match against Sudan at halftime.
Despite having two more shots on target than Sudan, who only managed one shot on target, the Black Galaxies were unable to break the tie from their favorable opportunities.
Mohammed Abderalmahn posed the greatest threat to and had the best opportunities of tumbling to the ground before Al-Gozoli got past the Black Galaxies’ defensive line and smashed a ball into the net to give Sudan the lead in the 31st minute. Mohammed early on missed a few chances in the opening minutes, but the post had prevented the Black Galaxies from allowing an early goal.
Black Galaxies returned from the break, they launched a fierce attack against the Sudanese, forcing Ahmed Adam to pull down Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the 18-yard box. The Galaxies were given a penalty after the incident was clearly described in a confirmation from the video assistance referee. In order to put the Galaxies up front, Afriyie Barnieh rose up to drill the goalie to the left and send him to the right side.
The Sudanese posed less of a threat but were more aggressive when attacking, whereas the Black Galaxies were more cautious. As a result, the defensive line of the Black Galaxies was simple to breach. A fantastic touch by Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who was outnumbered in the game, almost resulted in a goal, but the post was stopped, depriving him of it. Middle back for Hearts of Oak at the 45-minute mark of the first half, Konadu Yiadom scored the game-tying goal off of a second touch on a corner kick from Dennis Korsah into the box.
The Sudanese varied their game plan, but coach Annor Walker’s tactical plan was enough to match his opponent’s. The Galaxies again had a great kick from Korsah from a free kick, with Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scoring the third goal, but the VAR ruled out the goal. The Sudanese fought on, but Asante Kotoko’s first choice was the safest pair of hands. Danland Ibrahim made the greatest save of the night to save his homeland.
Sudan again scored to tie the game but was ruled out by the VAR, and Danland Ibrahim again was on the spot to save Ghana in the dying moments of the game. Despite down to 10-men after Afriyie Barnieh been sent off, Seidu Suraj got his name registered on the scoresheet.
