Asante Kotoko has moved past Accra Hearts of Oak to go second in the BetPawa Premier League after seeing off Kotoku Royals.
The Porcupine Warriors thrashed Kotoku Royals 5-1 at the Baba Yara Sport Stadium on match day 14 of the betPawa Premier League on Sunday evening.
Three goals were recorded in the first half, with Asante Kotoko scoring two and Tamale City pulling one back in Kumasi.
Ruthless Porcupine Warriors broke
the game’s deadlock in the 11th minute through Richmond Lamptey.
Ugandan forward liner Steve Makwala was brought down in the opponent’s 18-yard box, forcing the referee to award him a penalty. He stepped up and converted the penalty nicely to double Kotoko’s lead. Kotoku Royals fought hard to pull one back through Francis Kumi to end the first half.
Steve Makwala again got his feet on a ball to make it three, his second of the night, putting Asante Kotoko in a comfortable lead back from the recess.Kotoku Royals were uninspiring, failing to put in a strong performance in the second half, paving the way for the host to dominate and outclass them.
Ivorian Serge Zeze in the 80th minutes was set on side by Makwala cut-pass to score the fourth goal. Sarfo Taylor’s goal in the 90th minute cemented the victory. The Porcupine Warriors emerged victorious at the Baba Yara Sport Stadium.
