In a lengthy interview with Kumasi-based radio station, former Black stars goalkeepers trainer, Abubakar Damba has applauded Asante Kotoko for paying attention to their goalkeeping department ahead of 2020-2021 season. Damba went on to offer advice to Kotoko on how to make all these top class goalies fresh and happy with game time.
The Porcupines announced the signing of Black stars keeper Razak Abalora today.
The announcement has caused media brawl because fans and other media persons don’t understand the rationale behind the signing of another keeper while the club already has Kwame Baah, Felix Annan, Danlad Ibrahim and Osei Kwame.
But Damba thinks otherwise and said
”Asante Kotoko assembling the best goalkeepers in the country is a sign that they are a serious club and it means they have laid much emphasis on the goalkeeping department clearly explaining that the department is integral and important so far as winning games are concerned.”- Damba Told Kumasi FM
”I will also advice that they need to have a comprehensive program in place to keep them busy and competitive, by so doing, they will all be on their guard.
”This move by Asante Kotoko reminds me of our days at the Blackstars. Eddie Ansah, Salifu Ansah, Mohammed Odoom, Nana Bayin and myself were all around just to increase competition.
”Asante Kotoko needs to have a very good goalkeeper’s trainer who has good plans and understands the department to give every goalkeeper a role.
”The goalkeeper’s trainer must do a rotation of goalkeepers so that they will not go rusty because these are all top-level goalkeepers and it must depend on the performance of each goalkeeper.”
