Former Hearts of Oak defender, Yaw Amankwah Mireku has revealed that lack of quality players and inconsistency is killing our current Black Stars.
Ghanaians voiced out the sacking of Coach Akonnor after a horrible performance at FNB Stadium in South Africa yesterday where the team was beaten 1-0 after the end of the game.
Black Stars are now on the 3rd log on Group G after the Walias of Ethiopia shocked Zimbabwe this evening.
Legend Mireku believes CK Akonnor is not the problem and called on Ghanaians to support him so he can keep the current players for a longer period and the team will flourish.
“Ghana lacks quality players and at the same time consistency. If CK Akonnor can keep this current squad for a longer period, they will perform extraordinarily, but it will also be disastrous for us if we call the players today and eject them tomorrow for a different squad”, Mireku told Takoradi-based Photo FM.
He continued that, “footballers make coaches so if players are not performing, it affects the coach so Akonnor shouldn’t be blamed for the team’s abysmal performance.
Ghana will play Zimbabwe home and away, South Africa at home and Ethiopia at away, and need to win three out of these games before they can advance smoothly from Group G.
