A former Sports Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has insisted that CK Akonnor is not the only problem but his lazy technical support as well.
Coach CK Akonnor’s tactical plan against South Africa was so errant that most Ghanaians are calling for his sack and get in a tactically astute coach before the team resumes its double-header against Zimbabwe in the 2022 World Cup qualifier in October.
Some aggrieved Ghanaians admit that our loss again Hugo Broos’s side felt there’s no hope we can qualify from the group.
Reacting to this, Nii Lante had this to say:
“We saw the team play against Ethiopia and after the match, we were afraid of what was going to happen in South Africa.
“We were lucky we lost by one goal. Judging by their performance, the South Africans were not good, else they would have embarrassed us,” the former Sports Minister said in an interview with Starr FM.
He continued, “From what I hear, the coach is not the only problem. You have a system where people are pushing for their players to be in the team.
“What will be the reason to change CK? I believe it’s the whole technical bench, not CK alone. In the middle of world cup qualifiers, I don’t think it’s the time to change the coach.
