Johnson Smith and Nii Noi Samuel take their sides to Accra Sports stadium this weekend as Kotoko look to move back to the Premier League if they can win all their outstanding games.
Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko enjoy a rivalry like no other, and this weekend’s game is less tantalising given they are going to play without the fans
However, as the biggest fixture of Ghana football, we will go ahead and treat it as such
We take a look at the combined XI. This one incorporates the best players from each team but only those available for the Accra Sports stadium showdown on Sunday. Crucially that means no Emmanuel Keyekeh, Osman Ibrahim. So how many Hearts players get into the side?
Here, Halftimegh.com picks a Hearts and Kotoko combined XI, based on form:
This is a straight pick as Richard Atta, and Richmond Ayi hasn’t impressed this season.
The enterprising full-back will get the nod over Sumaila Larry and Fatawu Mohammed, Nettey is more complete as a right-back compares to Larry who is solid defensively but poor going forward, Fatawu looks great going forward back poor in the defensive phase.
The tiny left-back is arguably the best in the Ghana League as he provides attacking threats to the opposition and very solid at the back. Imoro aside from providing good crosses to his teammates in the box, he also has goals in his locker, Raddy Ovouka looks decent at the back but very poor going forward which is not a good sign of a modern full-back.
After a slow start to life at the Kumasi-based club, The former AshantiGold SC stalwart has formed a solid partnership with Abdul Ganiu helping Kotoko concede the least goals (6) in the league. Mubarik performance has earned him a call up into the Senior National team Black stars, Mubarik has moved above any of Hearts Centre backs
He completes a back five of Asante Kotoko players, Ganiu is the best defender in the league and he gets the nod ahead of Mohammed Alhassan after the impressive performance this season which has earned him a Black stars call-up.
The combative midfielder gets the chance ahead of Abdul Aziz Nurudeen and Benjamin Afutu after impacting Kotoko with good performance, he’s brought solidarity in the middle of the pitch for the Porcupines and as Defensive Midfielder, he has provided 2 assists for his side.
He gets the nod ahead of Latif Anabila, the dynamic midfielder has had a major impact on his team, scoring three goals and three assists so far.
Frederick Ansah Botwe
Botwe will get the nod ahead of Adom Frimpong because of consistency, Adom started the season well but injuries hindered his progress as Botwe has been decent for his side.
The Brazilian will play the number 10 role in our team because he’s shown that he is the most intelligent player in our league, though he is not strong his ability to pick a pass to his teammates is second to none, Gama, has won more fouls than another player since he made his Kotoko début.
The former Samartex 1996 striker has proven to be a prolific striker and we think he has done enough to be part of this team.
Called ‘Bayie’ by his friends, Kwame has lighted the league with proper goalscoring instinct which is second to none. His performance for the Porcupine Warriors has earned him black stars call-up.
