On Sunday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium, defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak take on league leaders Asante Kotoko in an outstanding match day 7 matchup that was postponed owing to participation in the CAF Inter Club competitions.
The defending champions are 12 points and 7 places behind their archrivals in the League standings. Hearts of Oak, who have four wins, two draws, and three losses in their last nine Premier League matches, will be trying to prevent a repeat of their 2-1 loss to Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in January 2020.
In their last six home games in Accra, the Phobians have lost one (Great Olympics), drawn one (Bechem United), and won four (Accra Lions, Berekum Chelsea, Eleven Wonders, and King Faisal).
The Porcupine Warriors suffered their second loss of the season when they were defeated 2-1 by Elmina Shark at Nduom Stadium. Asante Kotoko’s eight-game winning streak came to an end against Elmina Sharks, ending their greatest winning streak in two seasons.
Asante Kotoko in their last match pulled a hope from Sharks’ defeat to new GPL participants Accra Lions 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports stadium thanks to Cameroonian forward liner Frank Etouga Mbella’s hat-trick.
Dr Prosper Ogum Nartey is leading the Porcupine Warriors against the Phobians for the first time, and a win for Kotoko will put an end to Hearts’ title hopes.
Teams news
Hearts of Oak will be without playmaker Ibrahim Salifu due to an injury he sustained together with Caleb Amankwah due to a red card he received in their match against Real Tamale United.
Asante Kotoko have fewer injuries in camp and all players are available for selection against the Phobians.
Stats
Hearts of Oak have scored 5 goals in their last 5 matches, conceding 3. The Phobians haven’t scored in their last two matches.
Asante Kotoko have 7 goals in their last 5 matches, conceding 2.
Officials
Rustum Gameli Senorgbe will officiate the top liner and and will be assisted by Patrick Papala and Gilbert Adom Mensah together with Bashiru Dauda serving as the fourth referee and Adam Makaila serving as the match commissioner.
